Objects of the Company

VG Media is the collecting society of private television and radio stations based in Berlin. With 123 TV and radio stations, VG Media represents nearly all private broadcasters in Germany also several private broadcasters from other European countries, including TV stations such as Sat.1, ProSieben, N24, SPORT1, CNBC Europe, AL Jazeera, SBS 6, Eurosport, RTL and VIVA and radio stations such as Antenne Bayern, Klassik Radio, RTL RADIO, Hit Radio FFH and radio ffn.

VG Media is one of 12 collecting societies licensed in Germany and acts under the supervision of the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA).

As other collecting societies do for composers or for authors, VG Media represents copyrights and ancillary copyrights for private television and radio enterprises. This has its basis in the German Copyright Act. Copyrights and ancillary copyrights protect the creativity of audiovisual authors and the investments of the creative industry, assuring them a fair share in the financial exploitation of their television and radio programs.   

VG Media has established tariffs for different uses of copyrights and ancillary copyrights and published these in the German Federal Gazette (Bundesanzeiger). VG Media issues licenses for the rights it represents in return for payment of a fair remuneration.

To date, VG Media has concluded license agreements with more than 34,000 partners in more than 40 countries, including cable and IPTV operators, providers of mobile and EPG services, hotel operators and fitness studios.
